The Daily Benefits of Kefir for Adults: Boost Your Health Effortlessly

In our busy lives, looking after our wellbeing often takes a back seat. Stressful jobs, long working hours and kids can all dampen our plans to get to the gym and prepare those nutritionally balanced meals. Luckily, there are some small steps you can take to boost your wellness and it takes very little time, such as starting your day with kefir.

Here are just a few reasons to include traditionally fermented kefir in your daily routine:

Digestive Health

The gut is home to a collection of organisms mainly made up of beneficial bacteria that are essential for good health. They assist with digestion and even produce some nutrients for us, namely biotin, Vitamin K and short chain fatty acids that support both digestive and overall wellbeing.

Sadly, periods of stress, a high sugar/ low fibre diet and excess alcohol consumption can reduce the number of beneficial bacteria. At best this will lead to periodic bloating, gas and digestive discomfort, at worst it can trigger irritable bowel syndrome.

This is where that daily dose of traditionally fermented kefir comes in. Studies indicate that regular kefir consumption can boost the number of beneficial bacteria in the gut and improve digestive wellness. We recommend starting your day on at least 150ml of Mount Olympus kefir.

Immunity

Gut bacteria affect the immune system from the day we are born and carry on enhancing it well into adulthood.

A lack of beneficial microbes is associated with a greater likelihood of picking up infections such as the common cold, urinary tract infections, thrush and even food poisoning.

Kefir consumption can boost the gut microbiome, offering an important immune supporting advantage.

Weight and metabolism

The link between weight and gut bacteria isn’t an obvious one but research is increasingly pointing a finger at the role of the microbiome in maintaining a healthy body mass. Studies in obesity identified strains of thrifty bacteria that are much more efficient at deriving energy from food, leading to greater levels of weight gain.

On the other end of the spectrum, lactobacillus and bifidobacterial are two type of gut bacteria that seem to influence a healthier body weight. Our kefir is a source of both lactobacillus and bifidobacterial alongside other beneficial species.

Mood

The majority of serotonin, one of our feel good hormones, is produced in the gut. Without serotonin, we would feel less than optimum and spend more time down in the dumps than happy. Since a large percentage of serotonin is produced in the gut, it should come as no surprise that beneficial bacteria are involved in the correct production of this happy hormone.

Add to this the fact that in suboptimal gut health, where beneficial bacteria are depleted, the incidence of depression and low moods is much higher and it’s easy to see that boosting gut bacteria is advantageous. A small research study even found that supplementing with beneficial bacteria can help reduce negative thoughts and sad mood.

Whilst we can’t promise you a completely happy life, we can guarantee that each bottle of our kefir contains billions of beneficial bacteria.

How is our kefir different:

- It’s traditionally fermented for highest quality

- Batch tested to ensure billions of beneficial bacteria in each bottle

- Made by small scale and family farms in Greece not mass manufactured

- No added nasties, we like our kefir pure

How to take kefir:

- We recommend starting your day on 150ml (half a bottle of kefir) every morning

- Why not swap your usual snack for a bottle of kefir as a healthy alternative?

- Try it for at least 30 days. It takes a while to replenish the gut with good bacteria.
