Northern Greece is one of the most naturally privileged and dynamic vine-growing regions in the country. It is a large area which extends from the Ionian Sea in the West to the River Evros in the East, and from the northern borders of the country with Albania and Bulgaria down to Mount Olympus in Central Greece. The history and tradition of vine-growing and wine in this region have their roots in ancient times. On Olympus, the mythical mountain, the Gods enjoyed drinking Nectar, far from the eyes of mortals.

It is here, outside the ancient village of Ossa, amongst the lush hilly countryside, that  the charismatic Anestis Babatzimopolous  has built his domain. Breathtaking vistas of classic rural Greece reveal themselves when you enter the estate which is beautifully located on a south-facing slope at significant altitude (600 mtrs).  Babatzim is a member of the “wine roads of Northern Greece”.

The family owns 244 acres of organically cultivated land. With over 30 years of research into organic farming  behind him,

It now houses a distillery for ouzo, tsipouro and distillates, a state-of-the-art winery with outbuildings. In the glass walled restaurant with wide terrace that offers fabulous views of the hills and the sea in the distance, Babatzim will prepare you a delicious authentic Greek lunch with the ubiquitous glass of ouzo. There are tasting rooms and it even has an educational centre for both tourists and students.

Anestis Babatzimopoulos’ spirits are the result of  140 years of experience, an unsurpassed passion for organic cultivation and the desire to faithfully preserve the traditional distilling methods. His grandfather started the business indeed in 1875.

Anestis is passionate about his patrimony and has developed an association with  the best producers, farmers and village markets to promote the regional honey, beef, cheese, produce and wine, and he wants to preserve the traditions of raki and tsipouro.
